I looked over a couple of videos on the internet about Wymering Manor House and found a video that caught my attention. The video, titled ‘The Wymering Manor Investigation’ by CCI Television Production | UoP, shows how valuable the house is as the oldest building in Portsmouth, where the Queen’s Visitor used to stay (The Wymering Manor Investigation. 2018).

Years passed, and no care was given to the building. It remains historic but inaccessible and serves no specific purpose. It is in need of innovation.

A Journey of Transformation and Legacy

Buildings age but remain alive. Wymering Manor should adapt to the changing world. Its purpose should evolve to fit today’s needs and stay relevant.

I’ve been thinking about what Wymering Manor means today and its history. The video showed some mysterious things, like ghost stories. Should I use that in my design development?

As I finish my research and start designing, I wonder if I should turn this mysterious reputation into something positive. Maybe I can create a place where people remember loved ones and find unity. A place for everyone to come together, remember the past, and make new memories.

It feels like a story of death and rebirth, and maybe Wymering Manor House can be an experience that reflects both its history and ours. This concept has given me a positive direction for my design ideas.

Death and Rebirth:

I chose this topic because it gives me hope, like an endless cycle in life. It’s like a fresh start; we were non-existent before birth, right? And some people may pass away, but their presence lives on in our hearts, in our memories, or through their impact ideas that make the world better. Think of people like Steve Jobs, the co-founder of Apple. His inventions and brand continue to thrive today, leaving behind a lasting legacy.

Transforming Wymering Manor into a Symbol of Renewal

Should I incorporate the themes of new beginnings and legacy into my design concept for Wymering Manor? Can I transform it into a place of well-being, a place where people can experience a journey of renewal and new beginnings, similar to a “Death and Rebirth” experience that helps us move forward from our past?

This feels like the situation with Wymering Manor. I need to find answers to develop my design idea further.

Personal Death and Rebirth Experience

I remember traveling to Dahab in Egypt to visit Jabal Twailat. While climbing the mountain, the path became narrower, and I felt like I might reach a dead end. It was dark, and the only light was from my phone’s flashlight. Lost in my thoughts, even though there were others with me, I suddenly looked up at the sky and felt hope and alive.

It was like a journey through darkness, but I saw light. When I reached the mountain’s peak, I felt reborn. There were campfires all around, and people were gathering, celebrating with songs and music. It was a personal victory over my fears, but a shared celebration for what we had achieved that day.
